People have a lot different ideas on what makes a great party. For example, Julia Roberts once said all you need is latex boots, a blonde wig, multi-colored condoms and a heart of gold. I, on the other hand, prefer roller skates, boy shorts, and an afro wig, but of course I don't fraternize with prostitutes with hearts of gold; they are not only self-righteous, but they never leave.
If you are looking for someone to plan your next bash, look no further than Matthew McConaughey. You won't be able to call him as trailer parks don't have phones, but you can always find him on Tuesdays roaming around Walmart (he won't be the only shirtless customer not wearing deodorant, but he will be the only attractive one). He put together my Memorial Day barbecue, and although Milwaukee's Best was the only beverage on hand and the food was sub-par (he just put out various flavors of Doritos), you can't beat his prices. For compensation, all he wanted was some pot, a little face paint, and a bongo drum, and permission to roam the grounds in his boxers while singing "Free Bird."
Looking for a banging Bar Mitzvah or a rockin' wedding reception? Got six million dollars? If you do, look no further than rock legends, The Eagles. They set the bar on the most expensive private musical performance back in 2003. For six million dollars, The Eagles played one song, "Hotel California," at a private party in Manhattan. This equates to a paycheck of just under a million dollars per minute.
Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones trail just behind The Eagles. In 2002, Texan investor, David Bonderman, hired the Stones for his 6oth birthday in Las Vegas. They charged $7 million for an hour set.
Celine Dion tops out at number three. Her bill comes to 6.5 million for a private performance that she does two or three times a year.
Elton John charges around $4 million for his private sets. Just making the top five, Christina Aguilera performed for $3.6 million in 2005 at the wedding of Russian banker and industrialist, Andrei Melnichenko and Miss Yugoslavia, Aleksandra Kokotovic.
These hour-long sets may be pricey but are no match for The Eagles price tag. While $6,000,000 could surely secure any number of musical celebrity and certainly more than just one song, the phrase, "go big or go home," comes to mind.
