On October 21, Justin Kredible presents Cheap Trix (A Modern Vaudeville) at The Comedy Store on Sunset Boulevard. Multitalented, Justin Kredible combines comedy and magic during his act, and it is just this mix of humor and pizzazz that has thrice earned him the title of “Entertainer of the Year” from Campus Activities Magazine.

I have never seen Cirque du Soleil live, but I have seen a YouTube video, subsequently ensuring that even after a few yard-long cocktails from Fat Tuesday, I probably still won't accidentally stumble into one of these freaky spectacles. A five-person committee from the Los Angeles City Counsel unanimously approved a $30 million loan to fund 368 shows a year and produce 858 jobs in the Hollywood & Highland complex. Justin picked up magic after he broke both arms while attempting a dangerous bike stunt in an effort to impress some women. It seems the fallback plan worked. As of late, there's been no talk of recession in Hollywood. This weekend, Watchmen opened, grossing $55.7 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales and extending the biz's winning streak at the box office to a fifth weekend of year-over-year increases.

According to Reuters, the film dominated foreign box offices as well. Watchmen ranked #1 in the UK ($4.6 million), Russia ($2.3 million), Australia ($2.3 million), Italy ($1.6 million), Korea ($1.4 million), Brazil, Mexico, and the Netherlands.

The comic book adaptation screened in more than 3,000 domestic theaters, resulting in an average of more than $15,000 grossed per theater-more than three times the earnings of its closest competitor, Madea Goes to Jail.

Many people have reported that viewing Watchmen in IMAX format is the way to go, so if you're living in a metropolis, fork over the extra bucks for the XXL screen.

Soon after the release of the comic book, various industry power players called this project "unfilmable," which is why more than 20 years have passed (many of them spent mired in development hell) between the initial publication of Watchmen's namesake comic and the debut of its big-screen adaptation...

This equates to a paycheck of just under a million dollars per minute.

Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones trail just behind The Eagles. In 2002, Texan investor, David Bonderman, hired the Stones for his 6oth birthday in Las Vegas. They charged $7 million for an hour set.

Celine Dion tops out at number three. Her bill comes to 6.5 million for a private performance that she does two or three times a year.

Move over, Vegas: there's a new place to get married and then annul it the next morning-right here in the Big Apple. "We want to be the wedding destination of the world," says deputy mayor Patti Harris.

 

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has given New York City's marriage bureau a makeover, with a hefty price tag attached-for the city, at least. The overhaul, which began in 2006, cost the city $12.3 million to turn the bureau from drab to dream with soft lighting, cushioned seating, and computerized kiosks for online application processing. Couples can also bring in their iPods to play their selected music during the ceremony.

 

All of these changes have been made in an attempt by the city to generate more tourism. If you are an international guest to the U.S., you can tie the knot with just a valid passport. This fall was privy to Hollywood firsts and backstabbing at its finest. Director Catherine Hardwicke's teen phenomenon Twilight grossed $70 million at the box office in its first weekend and made Hardwicke the first woman director ever to dominate Hollywood with such a high return. Stephanie Meyer's adapted first novel has already grossed $160 million in its first few weeks, and Hardwicke had been duly touted as the industry insider who finally shifted Hollywood from a male-dominated arena for the production of testosterone theater (this is, remember, the same Hollywood that recently declared Nicole Kidman "box office poison" because she's a woman) to a more even playing field. Hardwicke also proved that teenage girls, all but forgotten since Leo and Kate's Titantic days, are still and always will be a viable and lucrative audience. I never can seem to figure out which color paints Hollywood. Sunny southern California was born during the golden age of cinema, later destroyed by the stock market's Black Tuesday, and eventually resurrected by the platinum blondes of the 1970s. Color seems to matter everywhere these days: just yesterday I saw a faux russet beauty pull out her red American Express card to see the Blue Man Group in Vegas.

 

Now the color is green. Everyone wants to go green these days, despite Kermit the Frog's warning that it's anything but easy. From eco-friendly grocery stores to environmentally sound bathrooms, everyone seems ready to go green-in name, at least. This movement is the wave of the future, though my hippie friends in Venice Beach will tell you they've been endorsing green living for years.

Where else but the Hamptons would you be able to find pricey designer clothing at a garage sale? Last weekend the city's elite raised $3.6 million at Donna Karan's annual garage sale in support of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Hosted by spunky walking-skeleton Kelly Ripa, and attended by notables such as Betsey Johnson, Lydia Hearst, Euan Rellie, Lorraine Bracco, Jessica Stam, Katie Lee Joel, Debbie Matenopoulos, Hana Soukupova, Charlotte Ronson, and Nanette Lepore , and where Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss, and that raisin-faced stylist slash Anna Wintour's nemesis, Rachel Zoe even volunteered to man the booths. As they say, one woman's last season's Jimmy Choos are another woman's 'vintage' treasure.

If you ask me, memories are like dominatrix sessions with Betty White: they just never seem to last long enough. But my favorite memories, which I do still recall in vivid detail, involve my parents, our fireplace, and all the wonderful lessons I learned from Father as a boy. Many times the subject was gender relations, such as Father's light-hearted suggestion to Mother that she learn the art of the soapy massage from our Asian housekeeper, or possibly make her eyes more squinty in general, he thought it would make Mother more likely to be his first choice for his "daily dalliance."

Although Mother tended to get upset about these talks, Father said the point was that "a woman should always repress her silly emotions and strive to please her man, which sometimes means allowing her man to dabble in extra-marital, lathered pleasure." Summertime is a perfect time to go out and acquire that healthy, scarlet-red glow.  As Mother always said, sunscreen should be avoided as it may result in browning of the skin, a stigma reserved for lower classes and minorities (Mother stopped baking in the sun after she got melanoma, which she called "one of God's trials for the wealthy").

Summertime is also a great time to get active outside, since many agreeable activities can only be enjoyed during the summer months.  For instance, the classic game of "Focusing for Funds," during which the help take turns staring at the sun and the one who looks the longest receives a raise, only really makes sense during July, when the game is most challenging.  There's also the always-arousing "Promiscuous Lawn Art," in which the groundskeepers mow images of various celebrities in sexual positions into the grass in the back courtyard while I watch from the balcony... Need I truly get into the specifics of treating my most prized possession to the touch of gold in the morning? For shame, readers! I hail from Connecticut and cannot talk about such things in mixed company without a champagne cocktail first. But if I were to share the details, I'd tell you that this pleasure device is 18 carat gold-plated, and wrapped in a delightful wood box that looks like the equivalent of a humidor for girls. It comes with a satin carrying case, a charger, and an instruction booklet (for those poor girls who need a little direction). What could be better than lowering the blinds, lighting a candle and putting on a little mood music knowing such luxury awaits? I can hear the Aaron Neville CD serenading me now. Oh Aaron, cotton may be the fabric of our lives, but I only want gold between my thighs . . . .

Combined with the robed rooftop of 230 Fifth, the Golden-Globe-scale litany of press, and finally, a glittering pack of cougars-their fur coats lush and shiny, their teeth bared and white-this was nothing short of a majestic tutorial. You see, dear friends, I am but a cougar-in-training and the Sugar Mamas and Boy Toys speed-dating extravaganza I witnessed was the apex of perfection in the field.

 

My vodka raised, I looked upon these creatures-the male models poised as gazelles ready to flee, the lionesses leaning forward ready to pounce-both sipping from the same watering hole.
